When
I first entered the net, on February 1997, I've looked for places where
I could talk to people. I had some chat rooms on my bookmarks list, and
there - in time - I've met new people. One of my chat friends - Rami
- sent me the ICQ program in June 5, 1997. With this new form
of communication, the whole world looked so close and touchable.
A week later I wanted to find me some new friends from across the globe.
I didn't know how to find them, so I tried to search for people by nick
names. One of the nicks I've chosen to search by was "friend".
I thought to myself that if someone calls him/herself "friend", he/she
might be as such... and a good one too *s*
One of the "friends" I've found caught my attention. His name was Joe,
and he was living in Calgary, Canada. Well, my friend of
20 years is living there, in Calgary, and that's how I knew the name of
this city in the first place. I decided to give it a try. I could always
talk with Joe about Calgary *s*. So I've sent him a message, and waited
for his reply... and it came...
Joe was new to ICQ too, and was glad to talk to a new friend from so far
away. We started talking, and in time became good online friends. Joe
loves to laugh a lot, and our time together was very enjoyable. We knew
for sure that we'll never meet because of the distance between us. We
exchanged our pictures, and slowly started to open up. I felt very comfortable
to talk to Joe about anything in the world. He was a good listener, and
I've started to value his opinions. He told me about himself too... It
was nice to know that Joe was always there for me, and I was always here
- for him *s*
AND THEN...
I found myself in those hot summer nights of August, trying to cool down
on the net. On the night of August 16, an E-mail found its way onto my
screen. The name was strange to me, unknown, and only fed my curiosity.
The address was here, in Israel. This E-mail went like this :
"Hello, Lorien, A nice Home Page, full of colors. Nothing special, but
leaves a good feeling afterwards. Are you always like that? If you reply
that's great. Regards, Y."
Y. found my old Home page by accident while browsing on the net. He liked
what he saw and read there and decided to make a contact. Boy, what a
decision that was !!! *s*
Well, kind and nice words they were, kind enough to reply. And so I did.
We started exchanging letters, and slowly - without noticing at first
- feelings seemed to have been lost began to awaken. Soon enough we started
talking on the phone, learning more and more about each other, finding
that the voices beyond the line attract us, strongly pull us towards each
other.
On the night of September 7th we finally met in person. Y. was coming
by train to meet me (we live 3 hours way from each other). Later We both
told each other that we were dead afraid of this meeting. We already fell
in love , but our fear was that we won't like what we see when met.
I was waiting in my car, and Y. looked up for it. When I first saw
him, it was a guy awkwardly holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand,
looking around. He seemed nervous, but so was I. I called him, and he
approached and entered the car. He looked at me into the eyes, I looked
back at him - then we both smiled.
This was a special time in my life. For so long I didn't have a man beside
me, and Y. was the first in a way. We were together for five months...
and then, we broke up... we've come to understand that we couldn't live
together, because each of us wanted different things from life... Breaking
up was not an easy thing to do. It was a hard time for me, but I had Joe
to comfort me and stand by me at those days of sorrow. Joe knew about
my relationship with Y. from the start. He was in the picture all the
time. He was the only one who could make me laugh then.... the rest of
the time - I didn't...
And then, one day in March 98, I had a very special call on ICQ from my
old friend in Calgary. My story got a very unexpected turn that day...
for the rest of my life...
