Non-scale victory, crazed scale and more
I already mentioned the other day it's a bit of a strange time for me right now. I was going through this experiment in maintenance for the last week or so, knowing very well the scale doesn't show changes right away. Some 5 days ago it still showed 146 lbs, the same weight I recorded as on April 24, 07 - my last official weigh-in. And then we went out one night for coffee and cake (something we didn't do for months and months), and even though Joe and I shared one plate - the amount of calories consumed was huge!
The day before yesterday, in the morning, my weight went up to 147.4 lbs, and yesterday morning, lo and behold - it showed 149.6 lbs........ wowowowowow!!!
The first second after I saw it - I wanted to play the shocked type. After all, I didn't have such a steep jump since I started all this 6 months ago. The second minute - I allowed myself to gather my common sense back... and knew that I should've seen it coming.
Yeap, experiment or not, I knew very well that if I allow myself to consume more calories than those I burn - I will gain some, and then some more. No surprises here, baby! It's a simple equation, and there's no need to play the dumb-a$$!
Ok, so we already planed to go for a hike yesterday since the weather was supposed to be nice (18C and sunny). I suggested to go to the Glenmore reservoir here in Calgary (and in the photo up there), to start walking the trail around the lake and go back after a while. I must say here (in brackets) that Joe doesn't like hiking as much as he likes biking, but since his right arm is in pain these days (Tendonitis), biking was not an option. So, he agreed to go hiking.
I think I wrote here before that one of my challenges for this summer was to walk all around the Glenmore lake. We rode our bikes all around the lake before, and it was something like 16.5 km. So, imagine how surprised I was when we started walking the trail, and Joe suggested we'll keep walking till we finish the whole trail... all around the lake!
In the past, I was well known for being a non - spontaneous creature. I had the need to plan things before executing them, down to the last detail. Since Joe and I hooked up together, I've learned to let go and do a spur of the moment things. So when he suggested to go forward and finish the challenge right there right then - though I was surprised, I was willing to at least try it! *s*.
So we walked... and walked and walked and walked... and then walked some more. The day was just perfect. Blue skies and some nice white clouds, light breeze, crisp scented air, nice warm sun, lots of new buds on the trees and spring flowers... and the people of Calgary (who were finally able to enjoy the outdoors after a long cold winter) were friendly and smiling all over.
We were on the trail for 4 hours and 35 minutes. We walked the trail for 3 hours and 30 minutes, and the rest of the time we used for lunch break, a coffee break and just taking photos and enjoying the view. We found out the trail got longer because of road construction on one of the main trails and bridges above the lake, and that forced us to walk more than we thought we will, but that was ok. We completed the challenge, and by the time we were back in the parking lot - I felt so much pride I could burst!!! That was the longest walk I've ever taken. We figured we walked at least 18 km, probably close to 20 km, but in my report I put down 18... That's good enough for me! *s*.
I didn't expect to complete this challenge so soon, but there you have it. I did! And... after we got home I hopped on the scale, and it showed 148.2 lbs... 1.4 lbs less than it showed me in the morning. Ok, I was thankful for that... after all, when one does stupid things... dues have to be paid, and it's better to pay them sooner than later, right? *s*.
This morning, which is my 1/2 year anniversary - I'm at 146.4 lbs. But I'll write a bit more about that later...
