She's an adorable little black puppy, not even a year old. She has tons of energy, and she won't leave you alone till she makes sure you know she's happy to see you! Meet Lilo, who belongs to Joe's son. Cute little thing, who LOVES to play...

Beware of dog!

• New series starting up today, Painting with light, and it's work in progress. The idea came up after surfing around the submissions for the Motion challenge of Photo Friday. Many of the submissions were kind of smeared on the screen in order to show motion, so I was thinking: "What if I move the camera while driving at night time and taking photos of lights? It'll be like painting with lights, no?"...
So I clicked the camera like crazy, and in 2 outings took over 150 photos of dancing lights. Out of them all I picked up the 5 I liked best. Here they are, and we'll add more in time.
• And the photo of today... some more of the icy look of the neighborhood... at night.

They look like ice thorns, I tell you... such strange forms of frost on every tree and bush out there. Winter wonderland outside our window.

• Photo Friday's challenge this week is Motion. This photo - of a group of belly dancers while performing - was taken at Eau-Claire Market, Downtown Calgary, on Canada Day 2003. As someone who comes from the Middle East (Israel) and was used to see belly dancing there, I was quite surprised that it's also happening here. But then again... Canada is an immigrants country after all *s*.
• Khasam is dying. Click the photo to see the large version and read his story. Such a sad loss for the Calgary Zoo, and to all Calgarians who grew to love this magnificent animal.

Twilight time is my (Lorien) most beloved time of the day. Somewhat mysterious, somewhat sad, the light lets darkness take on the scenery, and while going through the change, the most beautiful colors appear in the sky. Secrets of the day lie down to rest, become a memory... and those of tomorrow are waiting to be revealed just around the corner... Makes you feel longing for something... Enjoy *s*.

What does the word "Funky" mean? Hard challenge from Theme Thursday this week. While checking for the meaning of the term "Funky" in the dictionary, we've found lots of explanations. We can only hope the one we picked (hip in a down-and-dirty sort of way) fits the photo we've posted.

A picture's worth is a growing collection of photos taken by people all over the world, and the special stories behind them. It's the brain child of David Chin, a kind warm guy from down under. Today, our second submission is up there... A bear story. In our page over here on the site you can see another small photo of a grizzly bear, the only grizzly we've ever seen in the wild.
And if we deal with bears today, here are 2 scans of photos we took with our Minolta X-700 SLR. The "Big baby" was taken at the Calgary zoo, and "And the paw says..." was taken at Waterton Park. Our scanner is not-so-good as you can tell, but the photos were... cute *s*.

Finally, after almost 2 weeks of arctic weather, we were able to go out, enjoy some beautiful downtown scenery and take some photos. Downtown Calgary is not very big, but it sure is beautiful... especially at sunset, and at nighttime as well.
If you got a speedy connection, click the photo to see Downtown Calgary Panorama. File size is 886 kb, so it might take awhile to load, but it's ssssoooooo impressive! *s*.
