Yesterday we went for a walk in the Weaselhead Natural Environment Area here in the city. It was a bit cloudy, but a perfect weather for a walk. The area looks quite wild even though it's right in the city. While walking on the trail, we spotted those little birds flying around us. Joe identified them as Chickadees, and he was right. According to the official site of the Weaselhead,

Black-capped Chickadees are the most easily observed bird in the Weaselhead and often the first bird that novice Weaselhead birders can identify with confidence.

Extremely social, these birds rarely travel alone and seem to be fond of human beings. In fact, all you have to do is stand still and hold out your hand whenever you see a flock of them and the Black-capped Chickadees of the Weaselhead will usually land on it.

Part of the reason for this is the chickadee's inherent curiosity. But also a factor is that human beings have been hand feeding the Weaselhead chickadees for more than 50 years...

... Photographing a chickadee can be the greatest challenge of a photographers day because they rarely stand still. However, the enormous number of regularly stocked feeders scattered throughout the area do provide the patient photographer with plenty of opportunities.

It's true, it wasn't easy to get a shot... but we managed *s*. We had a great walk, especially since the fall colors starting to show... gorgeous yellows and some reds are already out there!

i-gizmo challenge for today is Window. While going through our photos, looking for the photo I knew I took of the sunset from our computer room window 3 weeks ago, I've found the one down there as well, taken on the same night.

I love them sunsets... so here's another one *s*. And if you like to see more sunset photos, check this gallery.

We don't have any other more suitable photo for today's remembrance of 9/11... just a though: If people engaged themselves more in the beauty this planet of ours has to offer, and less in the ugliness some beliefs produce... it would've been a better place to live in for us all.

We're still pretty shy of taking photos of strangers in the streets, though we have lots of opportunities with all the activities going around the city during summer. Sometimes... if we're far enough... we do. This little girl was just too adorable to resist or shy away. She was listening to a singer, and dancing all over the place, smiling and just being happy.

Thursday Challenge time again, and this week's challenge is Fruit.

Today's photo is from the mighty Takakkaw falls near Field, Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada. "Takakkaw" means "It is magnificent" in Cree Indians language. It's the right name for this 254 m high waterfall, the second highest waterfall in Canada. The falls are being fed by the melting Daly glacier, so the best time to visit is summertime, when the volume of water coming down is huge.

Another gorgeous pearl in the Canadian Rockies!

Some buildings that captured our attention during our visits to downtown Calgary. It's not very big, but there's always another building to shoot over there. They look so different at different times of the day... the light, of course.
