We walked around downtown today. We had a nice weather today, not so cool, but quite cloudy grey. Walking around downtown (instead of driving) sure gives you a different angle of the city... an opportunity to discover things you've never seen before... a chance to take a photo of this huge mural on a building in 6th Avenue.
Falling some more for this beautiful city with each passing day! *s*.

Great shot, I like the softness in this image. I walk by that street all the time hoping to catch something like this, but it never happens!

What a greater way to show what life is like on the street then to take pictures of strange people..... I love this one. It is just a moment of the day and it shows what different people do.....
Great one, way to go!

On our way back from our day trip to the Crowsnest pass, we took the main highway #2 to Calgary. We stopped the van as soon as we saw the grain elevator from the highway, and took few photos. Later we drove around town and took few more photos. It sure looked like a neat little place.

Stavely grain elevator
Stavely is a thriving town of approximately 445 residents, located south of Calgary. It has gained the status of town in 1912, and has won recognition for its quality and quantity of grains and livestock.
Some thirty minutes later we stopped again, this time to take photos of two of the town of Nanton's old grain elevators. The sun had already set, and the sky was dark blue.

Nanton's grain elevator 1

Nanton's grain elevator 2
Nanton is located about a 40 minute (70 km) south of Calgary. It is on the edge of the foothills, pretty close to the mountains. The population of Nanton is a growing 1840 people, and is a rising centre for many antique dealers in Southern Alberta.
We've chosen to process these photos with brown shades since it seems it reinforces the old look and feel of the grain elevators.

glad you took pictures of these. Sadly, grain elevators are fast disappearing from our prairie landscape. Sign of the times I guess.

This photo was taken at the same place as yesterday's photo (the Glenmore reservoir, one of Calgary's private lakes *s*) 6.5 months earlier. It was a cloudy summer afternoon, and we set by the banks of the lake, throwing rocks into the water (me) and trying to capture the outcome (Joe). We tried to be very coordinated, and came up with some cool shots. Don't know why we didn't post any of them before. Like the monochrome?

oh wow ... this is utterly fantastic. Duke and I have been trying to figure out how to capture the water with such crispness - nice coordinated effort here. I love the monochrome - the tones are wicked!!

Who through that rock? Reminds me of a time in my child hood throwing rocks in the old swimming hole. Some day I may get up enough nerve to tell you the rest of the story! love the pic.

The world inside the mirror... that's what we long for on those cold end-of-winter grey days. *Sigh*... cabin fever is so not cool.

Today is the first day of the Zodiac sign of Aries. I had this idea to try to come up with a suitable photo every time a new sign kicks in, so here's the first one. Let's see how it goes *s*.
This guy (Bighorn sheep) is part of the herd one can always spot in Kananaskis country. Him and two of his buddies were grazing along the highway, probably licking the salt from the road. We stopped the van just few feet away, and took few photos.

: ) I love these guys, nicely done .. reminds me of my old high school logo 'the rams', the horns were done at this angle ... lovely subtle colours here :-)).

Vey nice composition, color saturation, and subject. Among my favorite subjects, animal shots are right up there.
Warm regards,
John
