This photo was candid. The boy was a stranger, and was doing his thing by the flowing water of the Elbow river, just few meters before they go down at the falls. Moshe wanted him right there in the frame... "See the small human in front of the raging river?", he said... He loved the scene, so there it is.

We're going on a camping trip for a few days, early Monday morning... with hopes to get that ultimate photo that will qualify for posting as our 2,000th photo here on JoLoLog. See you when we're back *s*.

We just went here for a picnic on Sunday. It was crazy how crowded it was, and I was thinking it would be a good spot to avoid the long weekend crush. Boy was I wrong.

Oh yea... the Elbow falls area is very crowded on the weekends... but it's a nice place to have a picnic. We usually stop few km before the falls, by the river in a gorgeous area which is busy too, but not too much.

Thursday Challenge for July 28, 2005, is Time. Yeap, those are bare tree roots which are most definitely not ready to surrender to the elements... and time. But time, it seems, takes its toll. One day, these trees will go down... but not just yet!

Update @ 02:37 PM MT
I've finished processing another similar photo which is complementary to the one above. Something in this B & W atmosphere grabs me, as well as the way nature presents herself... Does it work for you too?

It's hard to convey my feelings towards the Rocky mountains with words. I've been living in Canada for 6.5 years by now, and I still remember the first time the mountains revealed themselves to me beyond the foothills. I remember my quivering heart when the sight of the majestic old Rockies filled my field of vision. I almost stopped breathing, I was overwhelmed with amazement... I fell in love right there and then...

I lost track of the numerous times we've visited the mountains in the last 6.5 years, not to mention the amount of photos we took of them. I'm still very much in love, still feel my heart quivers whenever I see them in the horizon... still take their photos like it was the first time...

Today I'm trying to share this feeling with you, with 4 photos posted here (all taken from the van few days ago, while driving towards the mountains on highway #1)... I hope I succeeds...

Even from a highway you can capture beautiful views....

omgosh... this is really pretty!

Neat photo! Nice use of all the lines. All zig-zaggity! I've been meaning to head up to Banff for a while now. It's been a few years since I've been. Of course, having no car makes it a little difficult ;-)).

Derrick | 07.27.05 - 9:29 am |

Yes, Chantal... Alberta lies gorgeously along its highways... vast and inviting, and I love to take photos while driving :-)).

wenhui... Thank you. Glad you liked it! :-)).

Derrick... A car is a must in such a huge area! A must! And Banff, though beautiful, is very touristy right now... but still, lots to see. Go! ;-)).

Lorien | 07.27.05 - 6:10 PM |

Lorien: I totally about it being a touristy area, which is probably why I haven't gone in such a long time. I think once I get a decent wide angle, I may have to head up Sulphur Mountain for a hike.

Derrick | 07.28.05 - 11:02 am |

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yea, we've been up Sulphur Mountain few years back, in winter time. The view is just to good to describe :-)). We took the gondola, though... couldn't hike in the snow :-)).

Wouldn't you agree this is a magnificent creation of nature? Yea, we knew you would *s*. From a shorter distance, everything looks much more intriguing, and it is just plain fun to see the photos on the screen and discover a whole new world in one tiny plant. Pleased we are...

Wow!!! Thanks, guys )

Dale, great to see you here

That's beautiful! Any idea what type of plant this is? What really captures my attention in the photo is the 'webbing' like texture within the pricklies (for a lack of a better term).

Derrick | 07.26.05 - 4:17 PM |

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've tried to find out which flower this is, Derrick... but with no success. I'm too new to Canada to know its flowers names

Lorien | 07.26.05 - 5:16 PM |

Hey girl, they're all beautiful! I took some shots today of a flower I have no idea what it is. Have a good hump day!

That was really funny... We were adding back east to Calgary from our day trip to Banff and the Minnewanka loop, so the sunset was behind us. All of a sudden we saw a woman parking on the side of the highway, taking photos towards the west. I turned back to see what she was taking photos of, saw the above sight through the back window of the van and asked Joe to stop as soon as he could...

Amazing... It was simply and utterly amazing!!! For someone who is not a believer, to have a sensation of revelation while facing such staggering sunset - this is truly one of a kind experience. We've never seen sunset like this. The sun rays came so intensely through the dark clouds, tearing them apart and flooding the earth below. The clouds were colored with unbelievable shades of blue, gray and yellow...

No more words... Just look...

If superman's dead, who's that guy flying over the fields? =)

Hehe... That's his pet bird, me think. They sure have timing, these birds, don't they? I love it when a bird is captured unintentionally in the frame :-)).
