Parts

Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada May 14, 2004 Taken by Joe

This photo was taken today in downtown Calgary. When we came close we noticed each of these street
"decorations" (?) were made out of 36 separate parts, each made on its own, and they were all cemented to
a concrete base. It is obvious they were created by kids. It seems they were made for the 100 years
anniversary of something in Calgary, that was celebrated back in 1975... but what?

Back home we checked stuff on the net: "In 1875 a foot weary troop of North West Mounted Policemen
topped the valley rim and saw what they were looking for: two clean rivers, forests of spruce and Douglas
Fir on the shady north face, poplars tracking the river's edge. It was the ideal place to build a fort, and though
they had no reason to look that far ahead, it was the ideal place to build a city too".

That was it... the beginning of Calgary, and the 100 years anniversary.
