Three old grain elevators still stand in Rowley as a monuments of the town's heritage and identity. They were
closed for good in 1989, as a result of modern-day shift from the pioneer wooden grain elevators along the
central Alberta rail line to selected "super-elevators" in larger centers. But residents saw the tourism dollar
potential, and successfully lobbied to buy the elevators from the Alberta Wheat Pool for $1 each. Still, the old
constructions need to be painted and maintained, or they'll vanish with time.
