About this series:

Johnston Canyon is located at Banff National Park, on the Bow Valley Parkway, some half way between Banff and Lake Louise. The Johnston creek streams inside a canyon, and goes through 7 waterfalls. Two of them, the upper falls and the lower falls are the most impressive.

The canyon is quite wide and airy. A trail was built inside the canyon. A metal catwalk had been fastened directly to the canyon wall to ease walking. There's a 0.8 km. walk to the lower falls, and another 1.6 km. to the upper falls. For those who need a bigger challenge, there's another 3.2 km up the mountain to a fabulous colorful Ink Pots.

We visited the canyon on September 25, 2004. The place was crowded with people. The day started a bit too cool, but later became warm and sunny. We had in mind to go all the way up to the Ink Pots, but found the trail a bit too steep... Well, we're going to try it again next year... all the way to the top *s*.

This series shows some of the sights we've seen there. Click the upper left thumbnail to start the viewing.
