About this series:

We had a day trip to the country side south of Calgary on April 16, 2005, and one of our stops was in High River. This small Town is located 45 km south of Calgary, just off Highway #2, and has 9,522 citizens today. First settlers arrived to the area in 1882, but the town became official in 1906.

We drove around downtown, and noticed lots of huge murals painted on different buildings. Short search on the net afterwards taught us that The High River Mural Society commissioned murals to be painted on prominent but less attractive walls throughout the town. The murals are all based on historic themes decided upon by the Society before a competition is announced.

There are 18 murals around town. We saw only 5 of them, and took photos of 4. It has become so windy and cold, we had to give up the urge to locate more murals and got back to the van. We also failed to document the details of the artist of one of the murals, and couldn't find any information on the net. We'll have to go back to High River one day, for sure *s*.

Note: Each row of the first 3 shows portions of the same mural, and the forth mural is shown on the forth row with 2 photos. The whole series include 14 photos in 14 pages. Click the upper left thumbnail, and begin your journey into The murals of High River.
