About this series:
This series is from our trip to the USA on May 2005. All photos were taken on May 14, 2005, at Zion National Park, Utah, USA.
From all the parks we've visited on this trip, Zion National park was the less impressive park - in our eyes. Not that it's not a gorgeous place to visit, oh no! We had only 1 day to spend there, and that was not at all enough! Maybe in the future, we'll take our time to explore this park in depth.
Zion is one of the ancient names of Israel. It's a biblical name. Protected within the park's 229 square miles is a dramatic landscape of sculptured canyons and soaring cliffs. We entered the park through Zion - Mount Carmel Highway, which leads to the Zion Canyon visitors center on the southeastern part of the park. On this road we had our first hike on the Canyon overlook trail, a short trail that led us to a spectacular view point of the canyon below us. The trail was moderate, climbing up and down among rocks and cliffs... all colored with this very well known orangy shades of Zion. Later we continued to the Zion Canyon visitor center.
The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, which starts at the visitor center is by shuttle bus only from early April through the end of October. Private vehicles are not allowed. So we left the van and hopped on the shuttle. We got down at the last stop of the shuttle, took the Temple of Sinawava trail and hiked on it along the Virgin river, inside the canyon.
We didn't manage to see a lot in Zion, but from what we did see (and shoot) - we know this place has a lot to offer! Here are our photos... Click the left thumbnail to start the viewing... and enjoy *s*.
