Thursday Challenge for December 2, 2004, is Animal. We have lots of animal photos to post, but I thought this short
series has a story to tell, so there it is:
It was a nice autumn evening at The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary here in Calgary. Fall colors were everywhere. Not
too many birds around... but there were few White tail deer, does and fawns.
We saw them crossing our trail few times while walking the trails of the place, walking around eating. They kept a
distance, but didn't seem too alarmed. We figured they were used to people since there are lots of visitors to the
sanctuary.
Joe crossed the bridge first, and when he turned to talk to me, we noticed them following us, a doe and two fawns.
Joe asked me to stop, and they stopped as well. I walked to the middle of the bridge, and then stopped and looked
towards the stream. First, they followed me, and then they stopped as well, and another doe and fawn joined them.
All this time, Joe was taking photos.
I continued walking, and the small herd was moving along behind me, keeping some distance. Of course, at the time,
I couldn't see what was going on behind me, but Joe was quietly letting me know what was going on... and taking
photos.
I've passed the bridge, walked few more steps and stopped. I was facing Joe, and he let me know the doe was very
close to me. At one point I was so curious I turned... and then she jumped. I quickly walked away from the bridge,
and the rest of them hurried into the bushes to join the doe. It sure was a one-of-a-kind experience *s*.
