Thursday Challenge for March 17, 2005, is Water. The weather that day was a gorgeous sunny 12C, and we decided
to drive to the Bow river and spend the afternoon and early evening walking around. We chose the Pearce Estate
Park, which was renovated for the last few years with a purpose to develop the wetland ecosystem which was
already there, where students can come and learn about it.
One of the features in this park is the Western Headworks Diversion Weir. The purpose of the weir is to divert water
for irrigation into a canal for use by farmers. This photo captures the area of the weir, which was solid frozen ice at
the time. Those ice blocks were tremendously enormous!
