Night of the lightning storm

Joe came home from work and told me there was a lightning storm out there in the sky. So I've made coffee, and out we went to chase the storm...

We drove to the east of the city, and stopped at the side of the road. Starting south and going all around us to the north west, there were lightnings illuminating the horizon. It was sooooo amazing!!! No matter were we looked, there were those flashes of light in full display against the cloudy night sky.

The north side gave us the best show. The lightnings became more and more frequent, and at some point we started to hear the thunder as well. The storm was coming towards us...

Night of the lightning storm

Joe set the digital camera's lens to open for 16 seconds, and clicked... and clicked... and clicked. Since the lightnings became so intense, and in a frequency of every 5 seconds, he managed to capture few of them:

1 2 3 4

And then, the rain came pouring down... so we turned the van back and rushed home to check the photos on the computer. Mother N. gave us another magnificent display tonight!... and a very good reason to blog *s*.

Summer blogging - part ll

It really feels like summer is all over blogland. Many of the blogs I visit don't update a whole of a lot these days. I'm not into blogging much myself. I don't have much patience for the computer/Internet these days. I wanna be out there, in the great outdoors, absorbing everything and anything nature can offer right now. I wanna workout outside as much as I can, and finish my lifestyle change project in the next few months, and then settle into the maintenance phase. I wanna take advantage of every minute of nice weather we have. So being online for hours seems like a waste at this time. Night for love

I still pay a quick visit to my reads, making sure everything is ok with you guys... finding sometimes that things are not ok... I might not comment as I used to, but I'm still around out there... from time to time.

It's this time of the year when I become restless and a bit crazed. It happens every year when my brother starts making arrangements for his annual visit. This year he'll come around the beginning of August... and I can hardly wait! Joe will have most of the time bro's here off, and we're going to have some kind of a "workout boot camp". We plan to have lots of bike riding, good walks and canoeing... and a camping trip or two. This summer we'll be disgustingly active! *s*.

And then, of course - at the end of summer, around the middle of October - I'll be on my way to Israel again.

So...

it seems like summer time has become a very important time of the year for me, because it brings my way all the things and people that I love and care about in the real world.

... It sure sounds like I'm going through a withdrawal from the net. Mmm... time will tell...

Wild... and gorgeous!

The city spoils us with many gorgeous trails for walking and biking, and today we picked one which was rough enough to give us a good workout, and also a wonderful display of color. Many wild flowers all around, the sun was warm and friendly, there was a light breeze... Did I say beautiful wild flowers???

We had a wonderful morning outside *s*.

The Stand for Israel

Scott says it all, and with so much talent:

I stand with Israel. In the endless finger-pointing game of "who shot first? Who stops shooting first?" I point my finger squarely at the Arab world, and wait with Israel for them to make the first real move. I admire Israel, because it is a ridiculously small country with ridiculously brave people.

Go read it. It made my heart sing to see so many standing with Scott for Israel! (link via Faith)

Stay informed

In light of the happening in Israel right now, here are some links you might not want to miss. Reading and staying informed is the only way to comprehend what's really going on:

Israel exercising right to defend itself, By Licia Corbella:

Hamas, an Islamist terrorist organization, has the stated aim of destroying the state of Israel and killing as many Jews as possible.

It's written in black and white in its published, 36-article Charter.

Peace is not on the agenda of Hamas, or Islamic Jihad and the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, which joined forces for Sunday's attack.

These groups believe it is an affront to Islam to allow Jews to live on what they believe to be holy Islamic land.

Recent history of terror bombings in Israel, By The Associated Press:

There have been a total of 95 terror suicide attacks killing 366 bystanders, mainly Israelis, since the current violence erupted in September 2000. Here is a list of terror attacks that killed or injured bystanders.

Middle East history for dummies, By Shmuel Katz:

There is much talk of illegal occupation in this land. But the only illegal occupation of Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley in modern times was effected by Transjordan.

No turning back, editorial from the Jerusalem Post:

By God, we will not leave one Jew in Palestine. Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi, from his hospital bed.

Israel is targeting Palestinian civilians, so Israeli civilians should be targeted. From now on all Israeli people are targets. Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, after the Israeli attempt to kill Rantissi.

Sheikh Yassin says that now Hamas will attack Israeli civilians. Rantisi says now they will drive every Jew from Israel. Now they are really angry.

Again... Another day from hell

A nother bus bombing in Jerusalem
As captured from CNN.

When mom tells me there's something on TV, and she'll be right back... I know... It happened again. 16 dead, dozens wounded in Jerusalem attack.

Sixteen people were killed and more than 100 were wounded when a Hamas suicide bomber, dressed as an ultra-Orthodox Jew, detonated his explosives belt on a bus in downtown Jerusalem Wednesday.

Where does this "Road map" leads the region? So far it looks like it goes straight to hell. Sigh... Every time it seems there might be a spark of hope... It shatters to hell.

I left the house right after... couldn't stay and watch the horror on TV. When I got back I was glad to find a post at Rinat's blog, telling she heard the blast being close to the place. She's ok, thankfully!

And Rebecca, who visits Israel now, left a comment to the post bellow. Thank you for letting me know you're ok, girl! Please, please, please... Stay safe, you hear??? And let us know how you're doing whenever you can.

Happy Shavuot

Happy Shavuot!

Happy Shavuot to all who celebrate, starting tonight and for the next two days. Shavuot (Feast of Weeks) is one of the three most important holidays to those who hold the Jewish faith. It is also known as The harvest holiday. Another name of Shavuot is The Day of the First Fruits, because it is the time the farmers of ancient Israel used to bring their first harvest to Jerusalem as a token of thanksgiving.

Shavuot is also called The holiday of Giving of Our Law (Matan Tora) since it commemorates the time when God gave the Ten commandments to Moses and the Israelites on Mount Sinai . This holiday marks the time the ancient Israelites had become spiritually free.

So how am I going to celebrate??? The usual shtick, I guess. A special meal, and I already asked a friend to join us. Yeap... nice *s*.

Wait... I need a cheese cake (One of the customs of Shavuot's feast is eating all kinds of milk and cheese dishes). Hummm... A problem. I have to figure out what to do...

The Burglary

Mmmm... I can't think of anything interesting to tell... so...

I'll share this E-mail I got the other day with you:

THE BURGLARY

I HEARD HIM TRYING TO BREAK IN.

I RAN TO THE CABINET, GRABBED MY AUTOMATIC, SLAMMED THE MAG IN AND CHAMBERED A ROUND. I WAS SCARED AS I SNUCK DOWN THE HALL TO THE BACK DOOR.

I ALSO GRABBED A FLASH LIGHT.

I OPENED THE DOOR AS QUIETLY AND AS SLOWLY AS I COULD.

I TIP TOED TO THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE WHERE I HEARD HIM STILL WORKING ON THE SCREEN.

I TURNED THE CORNER AND PUT THE FLASHLIGHT AND GUN IN HIS FACE

I YELLED "HANDS UP!!!" AS HE TURNED TO FACE ME...

Israeli music - joys of life

music This small thing brings me so much joy, it's amazing!!! Few days ago I discovered this Url in my favorites. It has been there for a while, but I don't remember checking it ever before. How it got there... I don't remember.

Walla is an Israeli Internet portal, one of the big ones. And they have online radio stations... lots of them. I can listen to Israeli oldies, Rock, Pop, Jazz, and so many other kinds of music. What a treasure I've found!

So for the last few days I'm reviving an old love of mine - listening to music. I mostly listen to the Israeli oldies channel, and lord - I'm enjoying my time on the computer so much more! The songs are played one after the other, old Israeli songs I know and love so much... The words are well known... I find myself singing along, and bundles of precious memories and tender feelings inundates me... in a good way. Somehow the music and words make me feel close again. It's only a click away, and I have so much to listen to...

Yesterday I listened to it when Joe was here. After a while, I asked him how it felt for him to hear Hebrew. "Strange", he said. "It's a strange language, but the music is nice... And I love to listen to you singing along...". I've seen it in his eyes... He sensed it made me happy.

Israeli music - One of my little joys of life. Does music bring you so much joy too?

Summer living... Summer blogging

A new month. Time is passing by like crazy, won't you say? I guess my blogging is going to go into summer mode now. We spend lots of time outdoors, plus I'm playing with graphics and photo manipulations these days, so I might not be here every day. We shall see *s*.

This photo was taken by the Bow river the other day, when we went on a bike ride. I enjoy playing with reality and imagination nowadays, since I've found lots of new free brushes to play with. So there... the birdies are not so safe on top of the tree after all *s*... Be careful, birdies!

Our little garden is ready for planting and seeding, so yesterday we went to our favorite garden center to buy some flowers. We got Marigolds, snapdragons, Geranium and Alyssum, and as soon as the rain is over (yeap, it's raining right now) I'll plant them, and also put wild flowers seeds in the ground. Wish me luck with those! First time I'm trying this, and I sure hope to have some nice surprises in few weeks. Spring fever

Haa.... the joy!!! I oh-so-love summer here in Canada... *s*
