Hit them where it hurts

Lawsuit seeks $20 million US from Palestinians, alleging terrorist acts.

MIAMI (AP) - An American injured in a terrorist attack in Israel and the estate of an Israeli lawyer killed by the same attacker have filed a federal lawsuit seeking more than $20 million from Yasser Arafat and five Palestinian groups.

The suit by Moshe Saperstein and the estate of Ahuva Amergi accuses Palestinian leader Arafat, the Palestinian Authority, the Palestine Liberation Organization, the Palestinian Preventive Services and Yaser Mahmud Alkativ, a commander in the Palestinian General Intelligence Services, with organizing, facilitating and sponsoring attacks against Jewish civilians in Israel and regions of the West Bank.

The suit, filed Thursday, alleges Alkativ was working for the Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade when he recruited Muhamad Al Katzir to join the group and attack Israelis.

The suit said on Feb. 18, 2002, members of the group drove Katzir to the road in Israel where he attacked Saperstein and Amergi with an AK-47. Saperstein was shot in the hand; Amergi was killed.

Saperstein has joint U.S-Israeli citizenship. The suit said he lost one arm in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, and lost his other hand in the 2002 attack. Amergi was an Israeli lawyer.

The suit cited a U.S. law that grants federal courts jurisdiction in cases related to international terrorism, or in cases that violate international law or U.S. treaties.

If the lawsuit is successful, damages could be paid from funds that Israel controls that belong to the PLO, Robert Josefsberg, the Miami lawyer who filed the suit, said late Friday.

"Arafat and the PLO pay $25,000 to the families of suicide bombers," Josefsberg said. "If we are successful in this, it may become a deterrent because it will become economically unfeasible to keep financing these bombings."

Yeap. Each and every one of their victims who survived, and the relatives of those who didn't, should file for one... and get paid! Then we'll see.

Coincidence?

Bro introduced me to Fred Miranda's forum a while ago. That's a forum for professional and amateur photographers... lots of photo posting, of the excellent kind. So whenever bro and I find a photo we like the other one to see, we send each other the Url... and if the other one is not online, we send it by Icq.

So anyway, yesterday I was browsing around the forum and came across this photo. I thought bro will enjoy it, so I sent him the url through Icq. And this morning, when he got online, he said:

"Let me tell you a nice story. I was browsing through Fred Miranda's, and I found this beautiful photo, and decided to send it to you. When I opened Icq, your Url bookmark jumped right at me. So I opened it right away. And guess what? You've sent me the same photo I was getting ready to send to you!"

Coincidence? *s*.

Horror

I've picked up today to start blogging again. Couldn't know I'll wake up to such an horror. One homicidal Palestinian policeman bomber managed to go through Israel's security measures, taking the lives of 10 Israelis with him, wounding many more.

Maariv also says: "The Foreign Ministry has decided to use todays terror attack as a launching pad for an aggressive PR blitz. For the first time the ministrys usually restrained website will show close up pictures of mutilated victims".

So The Israeli Foreign Ministry's site is showing the video of the aftermath. I've watched it all. Very graphic... very explicit... very gruesome. I'm sickened to my stomach, and angry even more. For the first time ever, Israel allows pictures like that going out to the world, and I couldn't agree with this decision more. It's about time people see what's really going on in Israel, and then they might understand why Israel acts and reacts the way it does. (If you decide to watch the video, do it on your own discretion).

To conclude with the site's words:

On a day when Israel is exchanging hundreds of imprisoned terrorists for the freedom of a kidnapped Israeli civilian and the bodies of three missing soldiers, Palestinian terrorism claims the lives of ten innocent victims, while maiming dozens more. This proves once again that in contrast to Israel's humane outlook, which views each individual as an entire world, the terrorists murder indiscriminately and disdain the sanctity of human life.

A bitter reality check this morning.

Happy birthday, dad

CakeMy dad turns 70 today. Though living in an eternal mist, his life is good right now. He's happy and content, knowing where he belongs, and cooperating with the stuff in the nursing home. Mom, bro and I are long forgotten, but still he's happy to see mom, and right away grabs her hand, wanting to go for a walk. Mom is the person he walks with nowadays... and that's good too.

Mom will bring him an apple cake and some juice today. He won't know why, but will eat it anyway... and hopefully enjoy it. I wish I could be there today too, just stand close to him on his birthday, hug and kiss him and tell him Mazal Tov (congratulations).

Happy birthday, dad. I hope your day will be nice and quiet, and you'll smile at mom and bro. I wish you could have known I've come a full circle regarding my feelings towards you, and right now - I love you.

I'll be back

Thanks for writing, Anne... Don't be sorry. I didn't decide to leave the blogging community... just didn't feel the need to be here for a while... till the clouds in my head clear.

But as Arnold says it so forcefully : I'll be back! ;-)

(And still, you can find me here, here and here).

One way to put it

Roaming through the vast plains of my present troubled mind, aiming at all directions but no one in particular, my scattered thoughts of an infinite quest for those elusive bits of understanding are taking me nowhere... for now.

Time to put an end to those futile trials to express something I can't put in words for myself first. I'm boring myself to death here, trying to come up with something to write about... and I suspect I'm boring you as well.

Time to look for other means of expression... something that will work for my present needs... and maybe release the block.

So I'm off to other plains in search for that something... You can find me here, and sometimes here... and you can always join us here... and sometime in the future, I might be back here.

A Calgary story

Jeff Shuckburgh of Calgary, a thirty years old young man, had a dream. His dream was to own an Old England-style pub, one decorated with antiques and art he found at Calgary's flea markets. He wanted to have a place where lonely people can spend few hours among other people, at a friendly neighborhood surroundings. Jeff teamed up with a partner, and at the beginning of December 2003 they opened Ale House.

On Wednesday night (January 7), Jeff noticed a customer with a weapon in the pub. He escorted the young guy (20 years old) through the back door of the pub, outside to the back alley. The young man then fired into Jeff's chest. People who were in the pub attempted to revive him, but he died later at Foothills Hospital.

The young shooter was arrested later by the city police.

One man... One dream... shattered to pieces... and for what reason???

So sad.

Israeli flag on Mars

Israeli flag on Mars
Photo from NASA site.

Space Shuttle Columbia Crew Memorialized On Mars. Call me silly, but it warms my heart to see the Israeli flag up there on the red planet. I sure wish it wasn't there for that certain reason... but still...

I wish

Button I had a better understanding of the human nature.
Button I had the ability to identify the times people want to hear only certain words, and give them what they need... or just shut up and stay in the shade.
Button I had a better social skills.
Button I understood why people who I thought were my friends don't have time for me anymore.
Button I owned a more appealing character.

I wish
Button I didn't write this post.

No, I'm not in a bad/sad/depressed mood... just reflecting. And yes, I know that if I I made different choices and acted accordingly - I wouldn't have the need to wish upon all the above.

Frozen sun on the menu today.

Calgary weatherLook at this! JUST LOOK AT THIS, WILL YA??!! This is one thing I can't get used to here, and I've been here for 4.5 years already! That's my fifth winter in Calgary, for god's sake, and still, I tend to make the same mistake again and again and again! Darn!

I wake up in the morning. I look outside the window. The sun is shining brightly. Skies are the most perfect blue. Few fluffy white clouds can be seen sailing along here and there. A beautiful day outside, so let's go out!!!

NO!!!............. no?????? why???...........

Because the temperature is low enough to make your nose break if you stick it out the door and expose it to the wind out there for only 5 seconds! Did you bother to check the temperature???

Damn! Smiling sun like this means warmth! That's what I've learned along my long years in Israel. The sun can be dangerous when it's too warm. SUN = WARMTH. Ggggggrrrrrrrr......

Ha! And what about when it's darn cold out there???

Mmmm...... We went out to do some grocery shopping anyway. We had to... we must eat. I wore 2 of everything and looked like I didn't diet for the last 2 years. Oh well... I must say I love the winter here, even though it can get very nasty cold when the arctic zone sends us some conditions... but whenever I see the lovely sun out there, my body cells expect warmth. Strange, isn't it? ;-))

And just to make sure you got it right... Temperature up there is in Celsius. Yeap!

Resolutions

Resolutions time, isn't it? Many write them down all over blogland... with the most deepest intentions to make them happen...

Shall I dare and write down mine? I already wrote them over there, in my healthy lifestyle blog, since they're related to my lifestyle changes. Other than those, what do I wanna achieve in 2004?

I don't know... I still have in mind to live each day as it was my last, and have few minutes of joy and happiness rising from little things I overlooked in the past.

All in all, 2003 was a good year for me, and if the new one is going to be as good as the old - I'm content.
