Here are three more photos from our day trip to Crowsnest pass (that leads from Alberta to BC through the Rockies) on March 4th. Crowsnest pass coal mining operations started in the beginning of the 20th century. The town of Coleman was formed then. The last operating underground coal mine in town, Coleman Collieries, ceased operations in 1979.
We drove through Coleman's main street. Many houses, stores and the town hotel are empty... actually filled with garbage and remains of days long gone. But, people still live there. It's not a ghost town like others in the area. We took few photos from these abandoned places.
The conversion to B & W seemed a must. Some tweaking with filters asked to happen in order to convey what we felt while looking at those disintegrating remnants of the past.

so it seems nobody is living in the 'deserted' house? okay time for me to move in ;-)).
Wonderful series, black and white are my favorites!

I must say, this recent series of images from your road trip is incredible! I've enjoyed it thoroughly. Now if gas wasn't 85.9 I'd be a little more excited about taking another road trip....

Thanks, everyone.
potty, those trips are not very expensive. We stay away from eating out. We take food, water and coffee with us, and spend money only on gas... and it works great :-)).

• Here's another photo from our day trip to Crowsnest Pass last week. A long the way, we drove through the prairies of Alberta. It was a sunny day, and the sky was clear blue. The photo was taken from the van while driving. I've decided to play with it, try to give it an old look. But, I don't know... I love them both . What do you think? Color, or monochrome?

This is a fantastic photograph. The Crowsnest Pass is amazing, and I go through often. I'm curious how you got this to look like so dark. Is this a long exposure?

Thanks, ren. That was my intention :-)).
Jeff, glad you liked it. As you can see in the original (A link is just under the photo), the skies were clear blue that day. When I converted it too monochrome, it got this spread that I liked :-)).

wow, the mountains remind me of an old Toblerone commercial I saw when I was little!

sigh ... this is so beautifully done! The monochrome treatment really adds a unique and epic element to this! Fantastic!

Photo Friday challenge for today, March 11, 2005 is Faces. It's a revision of this photo, or better yet, the original from which this photo was converted to B & W.
This photo was taken during the Carifest parade in downtown Calgary last summer. The Caribbean communities in the city celebrate every year at the beginning of June, for a week or so, and the Carifest parade opens the festivities. It's a celebration of culture, arts and music from the Caribbean Islands, and a wonderful way to bring communities close together in hearts.
We love this photo. This little girl had a wonderful facial expression at the moment the photo was captured (just before the parade started), and that's why we bring it back again, this time in color.

Remember a week ago, when we decided to drive to the Bow river and spend the afternoon and early evening walking around? Here are three more photos from the Pearce Estate Park here in Calgary, from the area close to the river.

No snakes around here, Joe... not even in summer time. Aren't we lucky? ;-)).

this is very neat, very effective with the ice hovering over the rocks.

• Don't know why we didn't post this one yet... It was taken on Joe's birthday 6 weeks ago, and little Jayden was 10 days old then. Yeap, he attended grandpa's birthday too *s*.
