These photos portray the fancy entrance to the Court of Queen's Bench building in 4th St., downtown Calgary. Above the golden doors is the Coat of Arms of Canada. The Latin saying, A Mari usque ad Mare (From sea to sea), is Canada's motto. It comes from the Bible, Psalm 72, Verse 8: "He shall have dominion also from sea to sea". The motto was adopted officially in 1921, when it was included in a new design for Canada's coat of arms.

I'm running late today... have been busy all week. Tonight we celebrate the first night of Passover, and we have guests for dinner. Have been doing the spring cleaning for the last few days, in part because of the holiday, in part because of the fact my brother will be here in 10 days and we'll start our summer (spring) 5 weeks vacation, and in part because... well... it's spring, no?;-)).

The photo above was taken on our way to Del Bonita, southern Alberta, 2 weeks ago. While driving we noticed this huge Buffalo farm just off the highway. We stopped, talked to the owner for few minutes and took some photos.

What can I say? The animals looked pretty miserable... it's sad to see such an animal in a corral, waiting to become food for humans. Something seems wrong with this picture...

A week ago we drove to the airport to pick up a friend of ours who came back from Florida after 5 weeks vacation. While I was waiting for him inside the terminal, Joe was playing with the camera outside in the car. What we love in this photo is the light spots on the car, the reflection of the lights from the corridor's ceiling.

Cars coming and going..... that's what airports are all about. Nice shot, not what people would shoot often, therefor a nice one.

Thursday Challenge for April 21, 2005, is Shape. This is the top of the Alberta Treasury Branch building in Stephen Avenue walk, downtown Calgary. Interesting shapes, with gorgeous skies as a background... It was a lovely day *s*.

These photos were taken 2 weeks ago, on our day trip to southern Alberta and Waterton Park. The Alberta prairies, those beautiful open spaces of farm land, look gorgeous year around. At this time of the year, early spring, the land just start turning green. The Brown Yellow shades are still very dominant, but somehow, with the spring sun rays caressing the land, the colors have a deep warm saturated quality to them.

We had to stop the van and take few photos (the second), with the Rockies in the background. The scene was most invigorating! And, on our way back home, 4.5 hours later, we stopped again and took another photo (the first) of the prairies.

It so happens that I'm too busy to pay attention to what's going on around me. This wasn't one of those times... well, almost. I was sitting by the computer, doing my stuff. All of a sudden, there was this strange voice inside my head... "Something is happening... you'd better stop what you're doing and look around you!". At first, I didn't realize what it was... then, I turned...

The sun was ready to disappear beyond the horizon. Her last rays entered the room almost horizontally and bathed the wall to my left with yellow, orange and golden colors. It was just something a person shouldn't be too busy to capture... I grabbed the camera, stood with my back to the window, and shoot towards the wall... There's another version of the same scene here.

I like what the setting sun did to that beautiful painting on your wall, and the intense shadow it casted from you.

Great that you can just see your shadow and not your face.

2 days ago we had a day trip to the country side south of Calgary, and one of our stops was in High River. We drove around downtown, and noticed lots of huge murals painted on different buildings. There are 18 murals around town. We saw only 5 of them, and took photos of 4. It has become so windy and cold, we had to give up the urge to locate more murals and got back to the van. We also failed to document the details of the artist of one of the murals, and couldn't find any information on the net. We'll have to go back to High River one day, for sure *s*.

Here's our new series portraying some of the Murals of High River. Enjoy *s*.
