• Calgary exhibition & stampede happens every year at the beginning of July, for 10 days. It is the greatest outdoor show on earth, where Calgarians and many others celebrate the old west way of life!
This year's Stampede started last Friday. We visited the Stampede park today, and took photos of the fair rides, the horses and whatever caught our eyes. (There are few more on our Flickr site, here).
• We've started a Flickr group called Calgary Stampede. You can visit it here. So far we have 30 members and more than 60 photos there. Lots to see.

Team work is needed

• Today we post the fifth series from our trip to the USA on May 2005, Monument valley. It includes 5 photos which were taken on May 12, 2005, at Monument valley, Utah/Arizona border.
Monument valley lays entirely within the Navajo Indian Reservation on the Utah/Arizona border. The isolated red mesas and buttes surrounded by empty, sandy desert had become very famous sights after being photographed for many movies, adverts and holiday brochures. The road to the AZ/UT border, which comes from the north, is the most famous image of the valley.
The East and West Mitten Buttes (very famous) can be seen from the visitor center, but most of what the valley has to offer can be seen only if one takes the dirt roads, accompanied by tribal guides. Because of time restrictions, we decided to enjoy only what we could see from the main road and the visitor center, so actually we only saw but a fracture of this exquisite area. Maybe we'll go back one day, and spend more time there.
Click the photo to start the viewing... We hope you'll enjoy *s*.

• Some more photos from our day trip along Highway # 93 on May 30, 2005. First two were taken before sunset at Vermilion lakes, located just outside the town of Banff. The last one was taken off highway # 1 by Canmore, on our way back home. Another splendid ending to a day full of delicious sights and lots of fun.

Calgary is a melting pot of many cultures... as the rest of Canada. Some communities celebrate their traditions with an annual festival, and invite all Calgarians to celebrate with them, and get to know them better. It's a great way to come closer, enjoy some good food, music and dancing, and just share some fun.
In May 26, 2005 we attended the Greek festival of Calgary. In a huge white tent, the people of Calgary got together to shout "Hopa", eat some souvlaki, listen to Greek music and watch the dances. We were a bit surprised to see all kinds of cultural dances there... in a good way. Here are 3 photos of women dancers from that day.... And if you like to see color version of the photos, check on flickr here, here and here.

*Mosaic!*
"Calgary is a MOSAIC of many cultures..."! In Canada, we cherish and appreciate the customs of different people. The US is the 'melting pot'! =-)
I like this photo a lot, although I would have liked to see her face more.
