As promised (see yesterday's post), here are 4 more photos from Nose Hill Park, Northwest Calgary. Standing on top of the hill gives a unique opportunity to appreciate Calgary's size... Mind you, you can't see the whole city from this view point, but one thing is very clear while looking around: Every direction you look, up to the horizon - you can see how the city stretches all over... It IS big! *s*.

Last Monday we had our first visit to Calgary's Nose Hill Park. No idea why we didn't do it before, since it's a wonderful place to spend few quiet hours in nature, without the need to leave the city..
Nose Hill is a unique natural environment park located in Northwest Calgary just 15 minutes from downtown. It is 11.27 km2 (1127 hectares) in size, 4.8 km from North to South, 4.0 km from East to West. It's the largest municipal park in Canada. Calgarians regard it as a special place where they can escape from the pressures of life and enjoy nature.
Sensitive vegetation, terrain, and archeological sites exist within the park. It contains a significant native rough fescue grassland ecosystem and over 66 native vascular plant species have been found on the hill. Over 198 wildlife species have been identified on the hill.
As of May 2005 there has been much dispute as to the future of the park. The City of Calgary is planning to reduce the 300 km of trails to near 60 km (half of them will be paved) and restrict access to only 35% of the park's area, all in intention to preserve this area and reduce the danger of it being ruined by too many visitors.
So today we post two photos from Nose Hill Park. Please check back tomorrow for few more photos from the park.

That's a neat looking plant! I really should make it up to Nose Hill one of these days. Probably sooner the better. Cold is coming in!
