Thursday Challenge for today is Shadow. This photo was taken on a mountain trail above Johnston Canyon in Banff National Park. What I remember the most from that moment is we were out there all alone... no other people around... and I was damn scared we might meet a bear. There was a sign down the mountain, were the trail to the canyon starts. The sign said: "Beware of bears!". Lord, I was scared... so we cut our hike short, turned back half way and went down the mountain.

Call me a chicken, but I don't want to meet a bear face to face, unless there's a big fence between us. That's how I
am ;-)).

We just spent an unbelievable 2 night hours out!!! We just saw a spectacular light show in the night sky!!! We just saw the Aurora Borealis, the Northern lights!!! Can you tell we're excited??? *s*.

For me, it was the second time... but the real first time I've seen a good show of this magnificent phenomenon.

Now, the camera was on manual settings. The shutter was opened for 16 seconds, F/1.8, ISO 64. The long exposure gave a bit of color to the photos. What we really saw wasn't as much bluish/green as it seems... but spectacular nonetheless! I re-sized the photos... that's it.

We didn't expect to get any good photos tonight. We just wanted to see the Northern lights with our own eyes. And yes, we sure wish the electricity wires weren't in the photos, but when we stopped we didn't see them, and later, it was too late to change places. Anyhow, we're happy with what we have... and yes...

We just saw a spectacular light show in the night sky!!! *s*

Cold afternoon... Chinatown, downtown Calgary. We parked close to the lion statue, which stands close to the Bow river. We wanted to have few more photos of the river that day, but it was so damn cold! We went straight back to the van after taking this photo, entered one of the Chinese bakeries... and had mocha cheese cake. Yeap ;-)).

Joe has become a grandpa yesterday, for the first time. I guess that puts me in the step grandma position myself, though I've never become a mom, and never will. It's funny though, how the arrival of a new born changes one's look on things. Looking at this little perfect creature - sleeping away his first few hours in the world, so pure, so innocent, so fragile, and yet, so strong - makes the heart sing. It fills you with love and appreciation for the beauty of new life. It gives you the urge to protect him. It makes you think how his future will turn out in this worrisome world of ours... It brings happiness to a troubled heart... Yeap, it sure brings happiness! *s*.

Welcome to the world, precious Jayden. May your time on earth be filled with love... May you grow up to be the person you'd love to be. May you posses the strength to pursue your dreams, and the ability to enjoy your efforts.

And with all that been said above, we're sitting here this morning with great sadness in our hearts. Two of our net friends, Joe and Anne, are going through a bitter betrayal of their physical selves. We love them for being such special souls, for making us smile every day with their shrewd observations of life, for being a part of our lives.

Dear friends, our hearts are with you at this harsh times... take care, and know... we stand with you! This post is dedicated to your brave souls!

And last... lensday.com challenge for January 12, 2005 is Abstract.

Well, I could not be more pleased or touched. And congratulations Joe. Your first grandchild, eh? Marvelous. And there's a bonus you may not have realized - eventually a grandchild becomes the tool of your revenge for your child's teenage years ;-)).
