Sunny Thursday June 10, 04

I had such an ode experience yesterday... We were supposed to go to a meeting with strangers (our condominium managing board) in the evening, to state our case and objection to stuff they want to do in our complex. Since there was a chance of arguing and bad words and feelings, I was pretty nervous all day long, going through my head over the stuff I wanted to say, knowing that we must obtain something they might not be happy to give us.

It sure stressed the hell out of me, but with no stress relief as a cigarette, and also forgetting to take the Zyban pill in the morning, I felt tummy cramps all day long, and didn't eat much. And this lack of appetite feeling was very strange and new for me!!!

So I went on the scale in the afternoon after I took a shower and before the meeting, and I weighed less than in the morning... something that never happened before, since my weight goes up a round 2 lbs while the day progresses.

Ok, so I was happy, considering the fact I didn't workout because the weather was too windy to go outside.

We went to the meeting, everything went pretty well, and when we came back home I felt much better... no more cramps... so it was like a sign for me too binge! How stupid can I get? VERY stupid!!! I had cramps afterwards as well... from over eating!

Oh well, that's life I guess. This morning the scale was still nice to me... around the same no. over there to the right... and I take it! After almost 4 weeks without smoking - and I managed to maintain?! That's pretty good in my book, but I have to figure out how to start losing again ;-))

So you see... all is well. Just had a 30 minutes walk with hubby. It's cloudy out there, and the forecast says there're going to be thundershowers this afternoon... so I have to wait and see. If the weather permits, I'll do some more walking later.

Sunny Tuesday June 08, 04

The sun is back again (though not for long) so... 61 minutes bike ride (16.7 km) in the morning with hubby, 65 minutes walk (6.1 km) in the evening with myself - not bad for one day, hey? *s*. So far, I'm 34.8 km into my challenge, which is a bit more than third... Let's see how it goes. And... I'm going to count the km I do on the bikes too... those are calorie burners as well, right???!

Strange thing... Few years ago, when I've found out my blood pressure was too high, one of the things my doctor asked of me to give up was drinking coffee. "Do it in moderation", he said... "A cup or two per day will be more than enough".

Ok, I listened to him and went down from 5 - 6 cups per day to 2, maximum 3 cups in some days.

Now, 25 days ago we stopped smoking... and all of a sudden I'm finding myself drinking some 5 cups of coffee per day, and not only that... the coffee testes much better than before... and it's the same brand as always... How strange is that?!

So what now? Do I have to give up coffee as well? Darn, this is not good for me, and that is not good for me... Mind you, since I listen to my doctor, my blood pressure is just perfectly low nowadays, with NO pills. So it seems giving up the pleasures of life do pay off ;-))................... Right???

Sunny Monday June 07, 04

A break day today... No real post... No workout since it was rainy and windy till not so long ago... A piece of apple pie with Splenda...

A girl deserves a break day from time to time, right? ;-)).

Calgary Flames play tonight in Tampa.... the last game in the series which hopefully will bring the Stanley cup back to Calgary. Go Flames Go!!!

Salad Sunday June 06, 04

I woke up early this morning, and for some reason decided not to go back to sleep but get up and go out for a walk. Around 2 minutes after 7:00 am I was out in the street. It was still cool (10C/50F), a bit cloudy, but still - nice enough to have my walk.

The roads were almost empty of cars, and only few people were out there at this time of Sunday morning. I bet you they all were crazy like me, but still polite enough to say: "Good morning!" with a smile ;-)).

Came back home around 8:15 am. The thunder storm came in a bit later... and it's still raining now. I was so pleased that I started my morning with an early walk... while I still could do it!

So after 6 days into June, I already walked 28.7 km... SWEET!!! ;-)) Will I achieve my goal and win my challenge? Well, that's still to be seen... I hope I will!

Did you know?

Diets: A primer

The first recorded effort of someone changing his diet to lose weight may have been William the Conqueror. In 1087, he discovered he was too fat to ride his horse. He confined himself to bed and stopped eating food - taking in only alcohol. No word on how much weight he lost - but he was reported to have ridden his horse later that year.

There's nothing magical to losing weight. The average 150-pound person burns about 1,800 calories a day just in the act of living. Add any kind of activity to that, and your body will need more fuel to maintain that weight. If you increase your activity but keep your calorie intake the same, you will eventually lose weight.

The bottom line: if you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. And it doesn't take long. For every 3,500 excess calories consumed, you will gain a pound. You can do that every two months or so by eating one cookie a day. Or you could burn off that cookie by running a little under a kilometre.

Low-carb, low-fat, high-carb, high-fat - to your body, a calorie is a calorie - and if you take in more of them than you need, you will gain weight.

Right!!! And then the article goes through few well known diets, starting with the low - carbs ones.

Are you on a low - carb diet? Here are some great links to recipes for you. You won't find me doing a low - carb diet... no way. Can't give up my carbs, though nowadays I eat only the good kind. No white bread/pasta/flour for me... only the whole wheat ones, and lots of fruit/veggies. Love those!!!
